What is Self Enrollment?
Self enrollment allows users to join FieldChat channels simply by texting a predefined password to the channel's phone number and answering a few questions via text message. You can turn on self enrollment on any channel that has a phone number assigned to it. When a user texts the password to the channel, the FieldChat BOT replies, asking for their first name, last name and company. They will then be created as a user and added to the channel. If the user already exists on other channels, then they will simply be added to the current channel.
Self enrollment can be useful if you have a large number of people on a site and you want them to sign up for important site notifications or safety issues. You can also use a QR code with the passphrase built in that you can add to your physical signage on site, so that people can just scan the code to join the channel.
How to Enable Self Enrollment
Pick any channel that has a phone number assigned to it. When you edit the channel, you will see a checkbox to enable self enrollment and a password that people will need to send as their text message to enroll. By default, the password is set to the name of the channel, but you can change it to any phrase you prefer. Passwords are case insensitive.
Example Texting Interaction
Here's an example interaction, where a user started by texting "Safety" to the channels phone number. Passwords are case insensitive and "Safety" or "safety" or even "SAFETY" will be accepted.
When you enable self enrollment, there is a QR Code provided in the FieldChat channel form that you can copy and post on the signage at the jobsite. When someone scans the QR Code with their phone it will automatically send a text to the channel phone number with the password you've defined.
